Legislative Reform for Civil Society

This session was held as part of our Symposium for Inclusive Philanthropy on July 28-29, 2021

In recent years several bills have had a major impact on the nonprofit sector and civil society at large. The Tax Reform Bill of 2018 led to one of the first dips in overall giving in recorded history. The CARES Act included a provision to make the charitable deduction universal by including standard filers. And there is legislation currently under consideration that could have additional impact on everything from Donor-Advised Funds to how the IRS is funded to who is allowed to fundraise at all. We’ll hear about recent bills and those under consideration from a panel of experts and moderated by Maria Yuan, the founder of IssueVoter and a member of Unfunded List’s Knowledge & Procedures Committee.

Moderators: Maria Yuan of IssueVoter
Ian Madrigal of Project Truth & Rec (and occasionally, “The Monopoly Man”)

Guest: Alex Porter, Tax Counsel and Legislative Aide to Senator Angus King (I-ME)
