Storytelling, Privacy, and Fundraising for the LGBTQIA Community
When our fundraising is centered on personal stories, it can be difficult to find a balance between sharing our experiences and protecting our privacy. Especially for members of the LGBTQIA community, telling personal – and often vulnerable – narratives can be key to not only getting projects funded but making others feel reflected in our work. This panel will discuss how to approach personal storytelling to help potential funders understand the urgency of the project while preserving our safety and mental health. We will also discuss how reviewers of grants can best approach and share feedback that is helpful and sensitive to the level of vulnerability often required.
